My Approach

I am an Integrative Arts Psychotherapist which simply means that I work creatively, use imagination and mindfulness, and am able to adapt my way of working according to your personal needs and concerns, drawing on a variety of theories and approaches.

Through integrative methods, art therapy engages the mind and body in ways that are distinct from verbal articulation alone. Kinesthetic, sensory, perceptual, and symbolic opportunities invite alternative modes of receptive and expressive communication, which can bypass the limitations of language.
I believe that we are all born with innate wisdom and creativity, that sometimes gets lost in protective barriers that we have built in our past.

This way of working will be an option for you if you choose to experiment with it. Visual and symbolic expression often gives voice to experience and empowers individual, communal, and societal transformation which we can discuss further if you choose to and explore in the session.

No artistic talent is required for Art Therapy to be successful.  The process is not about your ability to be dramatic, draw or create masterpieces.

My approach is based on using creativity, connection and careful attention. I set out to provide a space that feels safe enough to explore what is holding you back or causing you pain.  I understand it is emotionally demanding to speak about past experiences, worries or concerns directly, the medium of Art allows you to have an indirect pathway to your conscious or subconscious mind through artistic creativity. I invite you to be able to create a foundation for generating a deeper understanding of your own feelings and behaviors. Images can be made between sessions or during. We can explore together how we could incorporate the arts into the
therapy to best suit your creative needs.

I offer the possibility to use art materials during our sessions, to invite you to explore deeper layers of feelings. For some people, it can offer an extra channel of communicating to access those feelings that have no words.
